welcome from the chair
On behalf of the faculty and staff of IDAAS, I am pleased to welcome virtual visitors
to our Department. Through innovative pedagogies and rigorous intellectual engagement,
our department is committed to empowering collective voices using a variety of epistemologies.
Asian American Studies as an interdisciplinary field of inquiry emerged from the 1968 Third
World Strike at San Francisco State University. Asian American Studies at the Claremont
Colleges emerged from sustained mobilization by students, staff, and faculty. We build upon
this legacy of collective empowerment to strengthen voices, communities and the production
of new knowledge. I invite you to participate in the IDAAS community as we transform society
together. ~ Kathy Yep
